SUMMARY: The Senior CAD Designer is responsible for leading the preparation, coordination, and quality control of complex CAD drawings, BIM models, and technical documentation in support of engineering and consulting projects. This role serves as a technical resource for project teams and CAD staff, ensuring that project deliverables are accurate, consistent, and compliant with company standards and client requirements. The Senior CAD Designer collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and the CAD Manager to support project execution, improve drafting workflows, mentor team members, and maintain the high-quality standards expected by The Falcon Group. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:  

Essential Functions for Technical Positions  

  • CAD Production and Documentation Management:

  • Prepare, modify, and maintain CAD drawings, plans, details, and project documentation in accordance with company standards and project requirements. 

  • Develop accurate construction documents, diagrams, and technical drawings based on sketches, markups, field data, and design direction provided by project teams. 

  • Organize and maintain project drawing files, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and version control throughout the project lifecycle. 

  • Serve as a lead CAD resource for assigned projects and provide technical guidance during project execution. 

  • Review and coordinate work prepared by other CAD Designers for compliance with company standards and project requirements. 

  • Assist the CAD Manager with implementation and enforcement of company CAD standards, drafting procedures, and quality control initiatives. 

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of CAD templates, detail libraries, BIM standards, and drafting workflows. 

  • Identify opportunities to improve drafting efficiency, consistency, and project delivery processes. 

  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new CAD staff. 

  • CAD Standards and Quality Assurance: 

  • Apply established company CAD standards, procedures, and best practices to all project deliverables. 

  • Ensure drawing accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to internal review and client submission. 

  • Perform self-checks and coordinate with project teams to identify and resolve drafting conflicts, discrepancies, or omissions. 

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: 

  • Review and check project documents and drawings for accuracy, scope, and presentation before client issuance. 

  • Ensure all CAD work complies with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, including any specific local project requirements. 

  • Conduct regular audits of CAD files and processes to ensure adherence to standards and identify areas for improvement. 

  • . Production & Collaboration: 

  • Draft and develop plans in AutoCAD, ensuring adherence to Company and national standards (e.g., symbols, nomenclature, engineering terms). 

  • Convert verbal and written directions from architects, engineers, or project managers into accurate and detailed CAD drawings. 

  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to understand project scope, schedule, budget, and specific instructions. 

Internal Team  

  • Works closely with the team to understand the scope of work providing CAD support and training.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education  

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University business management or related field. 

Work Experience  

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible CAD drafting and design experience within the engineering, architectural, construction, or consulting industry. 

  • Demonstrated experience producing and coordinating complex technical drawing sets and construction documents for structural, architectural, civil, restoration, building envelope, and related projects. 

  • Experience serving as a technical resource and mentor to junior and intermediate CAD staff. 

  • Proven ability to independently manage CAD deliverables for multiple projects while maintaining quality standards and meeting project schedules. 

  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary project drawings and collaborating directly with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients. 

Licenses & Certifications  

  • Valid United States Driver’s License required as this position may require travel to and from client sites. 

  • OSHA-10 Certification 

Skills 

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and proof-reading skills. 

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD required. 

  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and BIM workflows preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, drawing production processes, and construction documentation best practices. 

  • Experience developing and utilizing drawing templates, detail libraries, families, and CAD standards. 

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic document management systems. 

  • Presents in a professional manner at all times. 

  • Self-starter with strong multi-tasking and follow-up skills.  

  • Ability to prioritize. 

  • Good time management skills and proactive approach. 

  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining consistent work- flow and meeting deadlines.  

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 

  • Excellent customer service skills to represent the organization with clients, affiliates, and outside agencies and to efficiently obtain needed information. 

  • Ability to work overtime if needed. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

Lifting 

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. 

Height and Access Equipment 

  • Safe operation and use of ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment as required. 

  • Ability to work safely at heights.  

Outdoor Environment 

  • Exposure to prolonged periods outdoors, which might extend beyond 3 hours. 

  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including but not limited to: 

  • Temperatures above 85°F or below 40°F. 

  • High humidity levels (above 90%). 

  • Adverse weather conditions like snow/ice, rain, and wind. 

Mobility 

  • Extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains. 

Flexibility in Scheduling 

  • Ability to adjust lunch hours based on project-specific demands, which might include working through regular lunch times.
